Remembering 9/11… Where Were You?

It’s the question that all of us who lived through that day ask every time we talk about that day, isn’t it? All of us who were old enough to remember, know EXACTLY where we were and what we were doing.

I was putting my hair up in a bun and putting my make up on, getting ready to go into the base. It was graduation day for one of our Intelligence Officer classes, and we had a 2 Star General coming to speak. So we were all required  encouraged to attend the graduation ceremony instead of classes that morning.

The phone rang.

And my life changed course. Right then, in an instant.

Instead of a life of looking at potential threats, the threats became real.

Because of that day, I would get to spend time in Oman, Qatar, Afghanistan, Iraq… and more.

My 3rd deployment… to Qatar

I would have to reschedule my wedding three times because of back-to-back deployments for Jeff and myself.

I would leave the Air Force far earlier than I intended… because the risk of deployment and leaving my newborn son far outweighed the joy of serving my country.

One day.

Events of just ONE day.

I’ve written a piece over at Columbia City Mom’s Blog that talks about 9/11/01. I hope you’ll read it.

And then tell me…

Where were you?
