It’s finally here! Earth Day 2013! It’s like a holiday to me! This is the U.S.’s 44th Earth Day. The date of April 22nd was designated in 2009 by the U.N. as International Mother Earth Day. This year’s focus is “The Face of Climate Change.”
I am, I guess I would say, just shy of being a full blooded tree hugger, but this has been a passion that has grown slowly over the years.
I do have to admit that a small part of me dies every time I see someone throw away a coke can or water bottle! (I honestly did not know there was an actual Ecology flag, but look, now we’ve all learned something new!) Living in Europe had a tremendous impact on me. In Germany you can recycle just about everything. In fact, you are required to by law. They provide you numerous bins and bags and it’s just a way of life. Every day was like Earth Day! So after 3 years of that, it was difficult to come back to find recycling optional, and what could be recycled was so limited. Thankfully, my local government has started accepting many more items in this last year. I wish I had taken a picture of my two overflowing bins this last week!
To start, I am really proud of an article I just published on my Hubs page. I’d really love it if you’d go on over and read it. It’s called Simple Tips for Greener Living. It’s somewhat of a beginners guide to living greener, but, even you pros might learn a thing or two, so check it out!
You must check out the Earth Day official website for information, products, ways to help! I particularly like the Campaigns page, where you can find out how you can help. Like planting a tree, or recycling your ewaste. What is ewaste? Find out here.
Now go recycle something! And don’t forget to check out my Simple Tips for Greener Living article!
While you are checking things out, be sure to check out the upcoming Online Blog Workshop! SPACE IS LIMITED so be sure to visit my post and register!
