This week the prompt is:
“I went to the grocery store the other day, and…”
…even though I only needed a gallon of milk, I managed to spend $180 and spent an hour and a half there.
Why?
Was it obsessive shopping? No, although I did find some really good deals. (When the chicken breasts are $1.89/lb, you can’t pass that up! So I bought 10 packages. Yes, we like chicken.)
But it really had nothing to do with the bargains.
I was free.
For the first time in over two weeks, I was completely alone. And I wanted to savor it.
No one was wiping snot on my shirt or pants, no one was crying, whining, screaming, yelling, barging in on me in the bathroom, hitting me, hugging me, kissing me, hanging on me…
It was just me and the friendly Bi-Lo employees who all greeted me kindly. I even talked to them this day.
I was in no hurry.
I used to hate grocery shopping. It’s still not my favorite activity. But it was the best darn grocery shopping trip I’ve been on in awhile.
Next time I just need to remember to take my coupons!
