Scary Mommy Save me from the Madness!

November 24, 2014 By katbiggie 8 Comments

THE HOLIDAYS ARE COMING! It’s Monday, November 24th, three days prior to Thanksgiving, and I have already done my Black Friday shopping.

What??

Yes, thank you Kohl’s. And I think my children are going to be pretty happy this year.

While I don’t have to go face the in-store madness, I still dread the other craziness that comes along with frantic Christmas preparations.

And yet, it still truly is the Most Magical Time of the Year.

So, I have a suggestion for a little bit of non-alcoholic stress relief.

Brought to you by Scary Mommy.

Scary Mommy’s Guide to the Holidays.

Scary Mommy Holiday guide

Yes. At only $2.99, not only will this give you a mental break, but a portion of the proceeds are going to the Scary Mommy Thanksgiving Project. That’s a win-win in my book! Oh, and there are recipes! Yes! So you get a funny book AND a cookbook all in one.

I did receive a complimentary copy of this ebook in exchange for my review, but my opinion of this hilarious compilation is all my own.

Y’all, this book had me laughing from the first page. It opens with Confessions. The first confession:

“I wear my maternity pants at Thanksgiving…..” (her kid is six years old) – bwahahaha. I wish I had saved some of mine for Thanksgiving!!

I think my favorite essay in the entire book is by Kathryn Leehane. Quite coincidentally, she spells Kathryn the same way as our baby girl’s was spelled. But that has nothing to do with why I love it. The title should explain all. The Dysfunctional Family Drinking Game. I’m ALL in.

My next favorite is definitely Kim Bongiorno’s How to Buy A Christmas Tree with a Preschooler and a Kindergartner. We are living parallel lives!

This is truly a fun and entertaining way to relax and get some good giggles… that only other mom’s can truly appreciate.  Ooh, and there is a little guide on Seasonal Cocktails for Moms, to include a mocktail for nursing moms!

Need more information?  Watch this hilarious trailer for it!

Here is what Scary Mommy, Jill Smokler, posted about the book:

Scary Mommy’s Guide to Surviving The Holidays is filled with everything you need to survive the fall/winter rush of cheer in style… without having a mental breakdown. From relatable, hilarious essays on everything from the Santa myth to being seated at the dreaded kids’ table, to easy-to-follow recipes that might include just a little something special to take the edge off (can anyone say Kahlua?), to fun and accessible gift ideas, this book is your ticket to peace of mind—and a laugh—during the busy, crazy holiday season.

Contributors to Scary Mommy’s Guide to Surviving The Holidays include some of your favorite Scary Mommy voices, along with some that might be new to you, too:

Kim Bongiorno • Christine Burke • Abby Byrd • Andrea Condodemetraky • Sarah Cottrell • Janie Emaus • Victoria Fedden • Nancy Friedman • Anna Gebert • Deborah Goldstein • Alice Gomstyn • Sharon Green • Jessica Griffin • Maria Guido • Toni Hammer • Natalie Hoage • Harmony Hobbs • Amy Hunter • Julie Lay • Kathryn Leehane • Jennifer Lizza • Lola Lolita • Alessandra Macaluso • Leslie Marinelli • Hannah Mayer • Jessica Mayer • Amanda Mushro • Jennifer Weedon Palazzo • Tarja Parssinen • Robyn Passante • Crystal Ponti • Lily Read • Jennifer Scharf • Alisa Schindler • Tammy Scott • Jennifer Simon • Allison Slater Tate • Jill Smokler • Rita Templeton • Vicky Willenberg • Joelle Wisler • Megan Zander. Pretty impressive line up, I think.

Need more reason to purchase the book? A portion of all sales will benefit Scary Mommy Nation’s (an official 501(c)3 charity) Thanksgiving Project, striving to ensure that every Scary Mommy can celebrate Thanksgiving with her family.

What are you waiting for?! Buy it now from Amazon, Barnes & Noble or iBooks.

The drinking game was one of my favorites as well! “Backhanded compliments from the brother in law” would have me plastered within ten minutes of arrival!

Right?? My husband was married before, and for the first year we were married, my brother in law would call me my husband’s ex’s name! ?? Thankfully, he doesn’t do that anymore.

The maternity pants are a great idea. But after seven children, I got rid of all of mine.

    I considered a bonfire….
