Sometimes we just need a break. Sometimes we have no choice.
Over the last week I have found myself pulled in many directions, and my writing had to take a back seat. I took an unplanned, unscheduled hiatus.
I apologize for any of you who were concerned (like my sweet friend Marie at Marie Oliveira who wanted to make sure I hadn’t jumped off a bridge after writing my last sad post and then not posting again for days!) I even had to miss Fiction Friday this week!
Nope, no bridge jumping for me! Instead, I was busting my tail to put together a big community yard sale to raise money for our March for Babies team! We did well. I think we could have done better, but I made just over $300 for the team. Next year we’re going to do even better!
In addition to the yardsale, my first born turned the big “6” and his party required some effort.
Of course we had to get the house ready. And the yard. And there was a cake to be made! (the green candle out of line with the others was placed by my helpful three year old, Jelly Bean!)
I was very pleased with the cake. Looks like I slaved away, but in reality, it was very simple to make.
So, Saturday afternoon (after I spent six hours at the yard sale!) we had 22 children in our backyard spraying each other with water guns and beating the candy out of a poor, unassuming “Sponge Bob Square Pants” pinata. I could not believe it as I watched them literally pile up on top of each other to get the candy! Unfortunately, I did not catch a picture of them in the big pile up. I also learned that you do not open presents after kids have been eating a ton of candy and cake and ice cream. It was like fighting off a pack of rabid zombies to try and get close to my son and see what he was opening. Finally, I gave up and just sat back in the chair and watched the hysteria.
Those big events left me with little time and mentally drained. For two days straight I did not even turn on my computer! Wowzers!
Of course it was during these two days that I had topic after topic exploding in my brain, begging to be written! I want to write about so many things this month. April is jam packed with causes worth taking the time to think about. Not only is it March for Babies with the 75th Anniversary of the March of Dimes, it is Autism Awareness Month, National Child Abuse Prevention Month, Sexual Assault Prevention Month, National Poetry Month, and more, but it’s also the month of Earth Day. As a tree hugger myself, (yes, I am a tree hugger!) I take this day very seriously.
I hope to fit in posts on all of these important topics this month.
Finally, I have some winners to announce! Congratulations Ladies! You have both won a Baltic Amber Teething Necklace!
Natalie from From Corporate to Domestic
and
Pary Moppins from Perfectly Practical in Every Way
Happy Monday everyone!

April 15, 2013 at 9:36 amWe all need that break now and again–don’t feel guilty for taking it. I’m glad that you were enjoying time with family and keeping busy instead of dipping into the lows that sometimes have us feeling like we should disconnect.
Have a great week! Glad you are back!

You look so beautiful in the pic with your son! And that’s hilarious about the kids going nuts after all the cake. We picked up our son yesterday from a sleep over and all the boys where in the front yard chasing each other with water guns and light sabers. Ah! To be young and full of energy!
