The Safe Delivery App – Maternal Health

December 11, 2014 by katbiggie 1 Comment

Since losing my own baby, I have become acutely aware of maternal health and newborn health topics. One platform I have become increasingly passionate about is saving mothers and babies from dying from preventable causes during pregnancy and delivery.

In our case, even the best medical facility, the best prenatal care, and access to the best delivery care and neonatal intensive care could not save our Kathryn. But there are so many other mothers, that just given any ONE of those options would have a better outcome for their babies and themselves.

Without access to safe delivery options, how well would we fare in our own communities?

[Tweet “Did you know that better access to trained healthcare could save up to 289,000 mothers from dying during delivery? We can help by funding an APP! #MaternalHealth via @katbiggie”]

What?

An app? Yes! We can support maternal health initiatives by funding the #SafeDeliveryApp.  Here is what they have to say about it:

Help us save mothers and newborns from dying in childbirth

The Safe Delivery App is an innovative mobile health solution using animated instruction films to train and instruct birth attendants to improve their skills and performance. The app is developed by Maternity Foundation in collaboration with leading scientists from University of Copenhagen and University of Southern Denmark.

As of today, The Safe Delivery App consists of three animated instruction films. In order to address all major life-threatening complications that can occur before, after and during birth, we want to develop an additional six films.

With your support we can develop a full Safe Delivery App by the beginning of 2015 to be used by health workers across sub-Saharan Africa.

While their Indiegogo campaign ended yesterday, you can still help by giving a donation through their page. They are only at about 50% funding and could use some more donations!

No woman should die of preventable causes during childbirth. We are so blessed in this country to have access to amazing care.

If you can’t afford a donation, please help by sharing about this fundraising effort via your social media channels.

Namaste.

This looks like a great resource and love that it is an app. I am heading over to check out more and see if I can donate now, too! Thanks, Alexa 🙂
