The short version:
Kat Biggie is a pen name I chose in order to honor my daughter Kathryn. I keep her name alive through my daily work.
I am a wife, mother, writer, blogger, advocate, activist, and a social do-gooder. In addition to blogging, I write non-fiction and fiction. I recently edited and self published a book called Sunshine After the Storm: A Survival Guide for the Grieving Mother and am working on several other collaborative pieces. I am also a contributing author to The Mother of All Meltdowns and the HerStories Project. I freelance for regional parenting publications and am a subcontracted Virtual Assistant through the company Strategic Office Support.
In my previous life I served in the United States Air Force and worked in Counter Terrorism Planning for Homeland Security. I often laugh at the fact that despite all of that, nothing prepared me for how difficult it would be to stay at home and raise three children!
I began this blog as an attempt to work the the grief of losing my infant daughter… one of my twin daughters, while trying to not let the loss steal my joy in my life. The progress of the babies, the loss of our daughter Kathryn, life after loss, spreading awareness about Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS)… these are the stories you will find weaved throughout the blog as I cope with this loss as well as trying to live and love my three children (and my husband!).
But this blog is not only about learning to cope and live through grief. It’s also about the ups and downs of parenting, raising three small children, and advocating for all things related to maternal, newborn, and children’s health and well being. And a few other random topics along the way!
