3 Reasons I did NOT watch the Oscars

March 3, 2014 by katbiggie 13 Comments

As I clicked on Facebook quickly last night before settling in for the evening with my Kindle, I realized I might be the only person in America not watching the Oscars. I have never been one of those die hard Oscar watchers, but I do enjoy seeing the celebrities fall down walk gracefully up to accept their awards, and make stupid comments that they will be hounded for in the media the next day.

And although I do enjoy watching the beautiful parade of gorgeous dresses, but that is just so not my life.

So, last night, I thought for about 2 seconds about whether or not I would allow myself to get trapped into the trap of the Awards Ceremony.

And then I decided to read for a few, and like the granny that I am these days, I pulled on my eye covers and snuggled into bed to attempt an 8 hour night of sleep.

Why was I so tired that I needed to go to bed at 8:30 on the evening of said Academy Awards?

I’ll give you three good reasons.

3 Reasons I did not watch the Oscars

1. I was still physically EXHAUSTED from running my first Color Run.

Oh my goodness was that ever fun! And colorful. And yes, it is only an untimed 5K. But y’all, I had to do another literal “from couch to 5K” instant program, because the last time I went for a run was November 5, 2013. Yes, I remember the exact date. And since that time I have done exactly ONE zumba and two walks on the treadmill. But that didn’t scare me. I knew I could do it, and I knew it would be fun.

But that’s not the end of the story. I got up at 5am – I like to get up good and early on race days to hydrate and eat and let my body work itself out if you know what I mean. Well, I decided to throw in a 20 minute yoga video. Which. was. heavenly Ilene! Then I picked up my friend Carrie, we headed downtown, and got there in time to do a 20 minute Zumba “warm up.”

Race starts, and I forced myself to run the entire time. Hills, no hills, I was NOT going to walk. Why? I have no idea because there were times I was jogging so slowly, I could have walked faster, but that’s just a thing with me.

But I did it, we had a blast, and then I was “race hungover” for two days!

2. We Made an Appearance at the University of South Carolina 24 Hour Dance Marathon

For the Kids! FTK as they say. This is the 16th year USC has hosted the 24 Hour Dance Marathon to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network. As Tiny is a Miracle Child for our local Children’s Hospital, we try to get out and support as many of these events as we can.

Tiny thought it was super fun to wear koozies as gloves!

3. I am behind on deadlines!

I have been working diligently at submitting for the next book in the HerStories Project. You may recall my announcement earlier in the year about my inclusion in this book:

Stephanie and Jessica are at it again, with the new anthology “My Other Ex: Women’s Stories of Friendship Burnouts, Betrayals, and Breakups”– which will include essays about a friendship that has ended. I am sure you all have a story… we all do. And it was surprisingly difficult to write.Well, I guess not really that surprising. I mean who really wants to rehash the events of being dumped?? Me! Me! Pick me!

The first book was awesome – I highly encourage you to get copy. This book will be even better!

So there you have it. Three of many, many reasons why I did not have the time to watch the Oscars. And I”m not even sad about it!

Very good reasons indeed and will say I stayed up to see Idina Menzel perform and they milked that performance until just about the end. Definitely was worth watching, but the rest not so much. So, you didn’t miss much at all!!

Your first Color Run looks like a ton of fun! I’m running my first one in May, can’t wait. This is the first I’m hearing of the HerStories project – will definitely check it out!

Funny – I rarely watch but I did last night. School was already cancelled due to snow so I knew I could sleep in. And I wanted to see Idina. But I suppose you can catch all the highlights today. Sounds like you had plenty of good reasons not to watch – what a weekend!

Those are fantastic reasons! I don’t watch it often straight through but I did last night because my husband and I were seeing who got the most picks right.
I had seen..only Frozen of any of the nominated movies. But I got an 11/24 which isn’t shabby for ONLY guessing!

You have excellent reasons! I didn’t watch them either, but I have no good reasons other than I was tired and I’m just not into it. 🙂

Definitely good reasons! I have one reason that I didn’t watch the Oscars – I just don’t like them! I never watch them. I guess I’m getting old.

no, truthfully I don’t like them too much either! that’s why it was easy to choose sleep. it just irritates me to see so many entitled people patting themselves on the back. but then again, I do love to watch a good movie, so I am glad we have quality actors!

Those all sound like great reasons to me. We just don’t have cable and the timing is off. So I look at a few dresses after the fact and call it a day. 🙂

I didn’t watch a second of it! For similar reasons- but different ‘to do’s. I am SO glad you got the rest you needed. You do SO much, Alexa! I don’t know how you keep up, girl. XOXO

I didn’t watch either. Walking Dead takes priority over beautiful people giving shallow, meaningless speeches. I just don’t care.

Sounds like you had a great and productive weekend!

Yay for color runs and 20 minute yoga videos! And that new book DOES look intriguing. I lost a good friend last year and it was very hard. Like getting divorced hard. I think I would be interested in reading this.
