I Do Declare!

My three year old is constantly cracking me up. Today, I want to just dedicate a post to my little Jelly Bean.

So last night, I tell my kids it’s time to go get their teeth brushed, and she exclaims, “I do declare!”  This is not the first time she’s said this. A couple of weeks ago she made the same exclamation. Puzzled, I tried to remember if I ever used that expression. Yes, we do live in South Carolina. Yes, Gone With the Wind is one of my favorite classics (book and movie) and yes, I do love Ms. Scarlett O’Hara, but I’m quite certain I have never said “I do declare!”

And then the mystery was solved as we were watching “The Backyardigans” the other night. Tasha says it! I love that show!

Jelly Bean is always surprising me with the statements she makes, questions she asks, observations…. for a 3 year old, she is wise beyond her years. But she has always been this way.

I will never forget in the days after I came home from the hospital, overwhelmed with grief after losing my Kathryn, I cried from time to time. She crawled up on my lap with a tissue, blotted my eyes and said “Oh goodness sake mommy.” She was not even two yet.

Yesterday she tells me she needs to whisper in my ear. As I lean in, she whispers “Nobody got time for dat!” Oh boy.

My sweet girl. Full of hugs, kisses, laughter. Every day with her is a blessing.

I love all of my children, and they are own special in their own ways. Jelly Bean’s gift is certainly love and laughter.

I do declare, I am blessed.

What silly things have your little ones said lately?

If you haven’t had a chance to read my post Return to Zero, I hope you will check it out. I’m on a mission!

As soon as I read the title, I knew where she heard it from. Katie went through a phase about 6 months ago when this was all she said. She loves The Backyardigans too!

They are so crazy! Braedan would say “bonjour madame!” for a long time after watching one of them! I love that they are learning these things and keeping me laughing!

I love this and trust me I get some crazy things said around here. Emma recently started to say, “That is a a fine how do you do!!” I tried to figure out where she got that from and still not 100% sure. But seriously coming out of her almost 4 year old mouth, it is a riot!! 🙂

I do declare, you are one blessed mama. She’s adorable! Leave it to a little one to keep things in perspective. She sounds like a good southern girl!

Hahaha! I LOVE her little sayings. Could they be any more adorable? No, not possible!! SO cute!!
My 13 year old came over to me at the end of a long day and gave me a hug and said, “I just thought you could use that”. It’s not as cute as “I do declare” but from a teenage boy, it doesn’t get much better than that. 🙂 –Lisa

Wow from a 13 year old boy that IS something wonderful! My six year old son loves to give me hugs and kisses. I dread the day that becomes uncool!

That is one of the many things I love about my 3-year old son! TheBubbster’s wit and humor always gets me.. and the memory on that kid is unbelievable! Of course I can’t think of any specific phrases right now, but he is always on his A-Game, and brings laughter to our home constantly. He has his moments of button pushing too, but I think that comes along with any great mind. Smart enough to know how to work it =\ It is nice to step back from the daily rush and take time to notice the moments that may fade. I am really enjoying seeing the people my children are becoming, watching them interact with each other, and embracing their VERY different personalities! Should be interesting when BabyGirl really starts talking.

This age range (from about 2-6) is just really so much fun. Watching them interact and coming into their own personalities really is fun!~ And mine have very different personalities too!

I do declare! You are most certainly blessed! This is adorable. I love how kids pick up these cute phrases and sayings that become part of them. And if I do declare myself, that phrase fits your princess just perfectly!

Love, love, love that child! Was just thinking last night it’s time for another slumber party at Aunt Gayle’s. Maybe next Friday when Aunt Rah-Rah comes to town we can have a Girls Night In at my house!

    Thanks for sharing!

Oh, how I miss the adorable things my girls used to say when they were little! I always thought I’d remember them, but alas, I have not. 🙁

If I can recommend anything, it is to write down what they say, in a blog post or journal or somewhere.
