My “Push Present” – The Treadmill Desk

May 29, 2015 by katbiggie 9 Comments

Launching our book Lose the Cape! Realities from Busy Modern Moms and Strategies to Survive was in many ways like birthing a baby. Our book baby. While I won’t go into any gross descriptions or comparisons, suffice it to say, it was a lot of pain followed by tremendous joy, followed by a crap ton of work and unexpected expenses!

You know how else writing a book compares to childbirth? WEIGHT GAIN! There is a thing called “writer’s butt.” I got it. On my whole body.

So, I decided, if I am going to be a real deal writer, and keep up with this profession (which I plan on doing), I need to figure out how to incorporate more exercise into my life. I’m at home with 3 very busy kids, I’m an advocate and fundraiser, I’m a Jamberry consultant, and I’m a writer. There’s no time for exercise.

WRONG.

I don’t like the way I feel. The word is gross. I feel ill, my self esteem is low, and my self loathing is high every time I put on what used to be super baggy clothes that I can no longer even get over my hips. Not cool. My health is suffering. My auto immune issues are through the roof! And my left leg and knee has been swelling for a month now, which is quite concerning.

swollen knee

Isn’t that gross? It’s not swollen quite as badly any more, and has gotten better since I started walking, but it’s still got fluid around it. (I am going to the doc next week!)

But I digress. I needed a change. I needed a creative change.

So, I bought myself what I like to call my “lose the cape push present.”

Introducing the Treadmill Desk. (affiliate link) It’s so awesome.

Now I can walk and work simultaneously! You see, traditional exercise is hard for me because I just want to be doing all the things I feel I need to get done. So now I get on my treadmill and use the treadmill desk almost every day for 30 minutes to an hour. And I keep getting my work done!

I have recommitted to my health. To my body. To my love of self.

You can get Lose the Cape and 6 other great books in this limited time only ebook bundle!

I’ve looked at these but there’s no space in our house to fit that thing and I am not sweating my butt off (sadly not literally) in the garage in the summer and freezing it off in the winter. Our garage in this house is better insulated than our old house but still it’s not the comfort my spoiled little heart desires! lol

You GO GIRL!!! YOU CAN DO IT!!! Love that thing! I thought the same thing, about writing while walking- but like you said, at least you can do your reading and sorting through emails etc. 45 pounds by the new year? Oh yeah… you got this! If there’s anything I have learned about you, you are one DETERMINED WOMAN.

SO proud of you!! For the book – and now for your goal!

(Can’t wait to brag on your book next month!!)

And we can’t wait to share your bragging post! Yes, I am determined, but I am also determined to keep drinking wine and eating cheese and chocolate. So, something’s gotta give.

That’s one of the best “push presents” ever. I think I owe myself one after two kids and some books too!

I still think I’d fall off that thing if I tried to type. I’ll stick to my pushups. 😉 You go, girl. I know you’ll do whatever you put your mind to.
