New Traditions

I hope everyone had a lovely Easter (everyone that celebrates it of course.) We had a lovely day. My husband, who is a ChristEaster attender, actually went to church with us. And since the whole family was there, we took the opportunity to get a nice family photo with Kathryn.

After church, we came home, changed, had a snack, and relaxed for a little while, before starting what I hope will be a new tradition – Easter dinner with my Sunday School class and families. Over the past year, we have gotten to be a really tight knit group. Within our class, 3 of us have suffered through an infant loss or late term pregnancy loss. In fact, it was my friend C’s loss that inspired the post “How to Help a Friend Survive the First Year After Pregnancy or Infant Loss.”

Those events in our lives helped us bond, but it was more than that. Everyone in the group is in the same age range, with small children. Many of us have kids in preschool together and we are in playgroups together. We have similar life interests. It is the “community” element that I have always sought when looking for a church. We support each other and help each other, and yesterday, we got together and enjoyed food, an Easter Egg hunt, good conversation, and watching our children play. We’ve decided this is an excellent way to do Easter! We are all about starting new traditions!

Speaking of traditions and holidays, Mother’s Day is rapidly approaching. I hope you will consider supporting our Bereaved Mother’s Day Campaign. We are raising money to donate copies of the book Sunshine After the Storm: A Survival Guide for the Grieving Mother to hospitals and bereavement groups. I’m excited to also announce we just added another book. It’s so new, she doesn’t even have a cover out yet, but it will be a beautiful book.
