Y’all know how passionate I am about the subject of Newborn Health. Ever since I lost my two day old infant Kathryn, and nearly lost her twin sister, my life has been devoted to maternal and newborn health, and supporting organizations with that mission.
This week Social Good Moms – mom bloggers who really care about Social Good and make our voices heard on those issues – is focusing on Newborn Heath.
Every year 3.3 million babies die worldwide, many of whom die from preventable causes.
Let that sink in for a moment. Preventable.
The great news: We can do something about it! We can spread the word about the Every Newborn Action Plan that has been put in place specifically to reduce newborn deaths. Additionally, as moms we can comment on the draft plan with our ideas and suggestions until February 28.

February 10, 2014 at 9:40 amHeading over there to check and share, too. You are so right there are totally preventable methods and so sad that others don’t get or understand this. I literally had to fight my insurance company for about 6 months after to cover some of my pregnancy tests and screenings for my second pregnancy with Lily. I had placenta pre via, was high risk and still some of the recommended tests by my own insurance company were being denied. I was fortunate enough to have a doctor, who did them anyway, was not looking for a cent out of my pocket and helped me fight our insurance company. But just so infuriating and remember asking the agent after I had successfully had Lily (who thankfully was perfect and healthy), would they have rather me not get said testing and lost my baby. I mean it is ridiculous and definitely mind boggling. So, definitely right behind you on this. And thank you for sharing this here.

There are a world of loving people out there that would take and nurture those babies. Hospital ERs offer no questions asked baby drop-offs for those who don’t want or can’t handle their child.
