Y’all know how passionate I am about the subject of Newborn Health. Ever since I lost my two day old infant Kathryn, and nearly lost her twin sister, my life has been devoted to maternal and newborn health, and supporting organizations with that mission.
This week Social Good Moms – mom bloggers who really care about Social Good and make our voices heard on those issues – is focusing on Newborn Heath.
Every year 3.3 million babies die worldwide, many of whom die from preventable causes.
Let that sink in for a moment. Preventable.
The great news: We can do something about it! We can spread the word about the Every Newborn Action Plan that has been put in place specifically to reduce newborn deaths. Additionally, as moms we can comment on the draft plan with our ideas and suggestions until February 28.
Don’t we all deserve a healthy baby?
Do you want to help? It’s easy!
Visit the Every Newborn Action Plan and comment on the draft plan.
Spread the word by sending out a couple of easy tweets this week. So easy, Social Good Moms has even written them out for us!
1. Tweet: We know how to best save newborn lives but we need your views to take action #EveryNewborn http://ctt.ec/d0136+ #SocialGoodMoms
I tweeted about this yesterday. Commenting on the plan is on my to-do list today. I love that the WHO is reaching out to moms for feedback. Amazing how easy is it to have our voices heard!
p.s. Just tumbled this link to Simple Giving Lab!
Heading over there to check and share, too. You are so right there are totally preventable methods and so sad that others don’t get or understand this. I literally had to fight my insurance company for about 6 months after to cover some of my pregnancy tests and screenings for my second pregnancy with Lily. I had placenta pre via, was high risk and still some of the recommended tests by my own insurance company were being denied. I was fortunate enough to have a doctor, who did them anyway, was not looking for a cent out of my pocket and helped me fight our insurance company. But just so infuriating and remember asking the agent after I had successfully had Lily (who thankfully was perfect and healthy), would they have rather me not get said testing and lost my baby. I mean it is ridiculous and definitely mind boggling. So, definitely right behind you on this. And thank you for sharing this here.
Will absolutely share this on Twitter! So glad you are helping to spread the word. :)-Ashley
Will absolutely be sharing this. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
That number is inexcusable. I am tweeting for you now. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.
I will absolutely share. Thank you for spreading the word. It’s…astonishing to think about.
So many preventable deaths? Tragic!
I appreciate what you are doing here with this blog. I have a friend who lost her twins to TTTS years ago, and I know your writing would have been such a comfort to her.

So great of you to channel your grief into good. I raised twins and there is not a day that goes by that I don’t realize how lucky I am!
Thanks for posting this. I am going to check this out. I hope some day soon to start my own family and I want to be as prepared as possible. #SITSBlogging
First let me say, how very sorry I am for your loss. I just can’t imagine losing one of my children, and so soon after giving them life.
Thank you for sharing the information on this cause. That is a staggering statistic. Just wow. .I’ve got the social good moms site open and plan on perusing it more when it’s not the middle of the night 🙂
I hope you do. It has brought me much joy and satisfaction to use my blog and my social platform to try and do good for others. And thank you for your kind words.

I tweeted! My daughter was born six weeks early and though she’s perfectly healthy maternal and newborn health is really important to me, too.
I’m a mom of 7, Labor and delivery and also a pediatric nurse. Tweeted! Maternal and Newborn Health should be a high priority before conception. #SITSBlogging love 😉
Such a worthy cause. #SITSBlogging
What’s even more sad – and the reason I avoid the news – is the stories you hear of babies being beaten or dying at the hands of careless and ungrateful parents. There are a world of loving people out there that would take and nurture those babies. Hospital ERs offer no questions asked baby drop-offs for those who don’t want or can’t handle their child. What is wrong with these people!? It breaks my heart. #SITSBlogging
Love your heart for helping others by using your experiences for good!! #SITS
I am so late to this Alexa – I apologize. I’m tweeting – and will continue to tweet my friend. Thank you for being a champion of this cause. xo
