Rain or shine, tomorrow we march for babies! #whyIWalk

April 24, 2015 by katbiggie 3 Comments

This is our FOURTH year raising money for the March of Dimes with Team Charis and Kat.

Each year gets a little more difficult to raise the money.

Each year I continue to beg and plead to bring in as much money a I can. And each year I am blessed by the number of people that answer that call.

This year has been tough. Don’t get me wrong, we’ve still done really well. We raised over $5000 as a Team, of which I am proud.

But it’s not enough. It’s NEVER enough.

Because you know what never happens? I never, ever, EVER get to show up on walk day with TWO babies. No one recognizes me as a twin mom. No one there (that doesn’t know us of course) has any idea that, while my cute and feisty little survivor Tiny is there and alive and truly a success story for neonatal care, NICU teams, and amazing NICU doctors and nurses, her twin sister is not by her side.

AND THAT FREAKING SUCKS.

Every day that sucks. But especially on March for Babies day. When I get to see all the other sets of twins and triplets that DID go home together.

I’m happy for those families. I’m so very happy for them. Truly.

And I’m happy for us. We have a beautiful, thriving little girl, with no resilient issues.

She is a miracle.

She went from this:

Charis compressed

And has grown in to this:

1lb 10 oz miracle

And I owe so very much of that to the incredible advancements made in neonatal care.

So I am thankful, and even if it is painful, I will continue raising money for the March of Dimes.

I will continue showing up at the March for Babies, smiling at the twins and loving on the multiples that I know and love so very much… with the extreme hope that ONE day, because of my efforts and the efforts of others like me, a family in a similar position WILL take both babies home.

Thank you for all that you do Alexa. You are truly an inspiration. I’m glad to know you, and share the hope that all premature babies can go home with their parents. I’ll be thinking of you guys tomorrow as we walk (probably in the snow 😉 )
