I am still a tad bit behind… okay, a lot behind. This blog has taken a back seat while I’ve tried to recover from three months of non-stop fundraising and two major mega campaigns.
I’m not quite sure when I’ll be completely caught up. I have packages of books to mail around the country, thank yous to be sent, and prizes from our great giveaway to ship out. All things I am very happy to be busy doing, since we raised over $1000 for our Grieving Mothers Campaign and over $6000 for Team Charis and Kat, my March for Babies Team.
Woohoo! Go Team No Holding Back!
But there is something going on this weekend that I did NOT want you all to miss. You may remember way back in May of last year when I wrote about becoming a Local Leader for the film Return to Zero? And as a local leader, I’ve been spreading the word about the movie. We had high hopes of seeing it on the big screen, but the director/writer Sean Hanish, worked an even better deal because he knows how important this story is and how many people need to watch it.
So… Return to Zero is going to premiere on Lifetime THIS SATURDAY May 17, 2014 at 8pm EST.
Watch this amazing trailer. It gives me chills. The cast… incredible.

Don’t think that just because you never personally experienced the loss of a baby that this movie is NOT for you!
In fact, it’s the opposite. This movie is a wonderful resource for those who have witnessed a friend or family member go through this life changing event. For once, you get a sneak peak into the raw emotions, thoughts, and inner happenings of a couple who’s first baby is stillborn.
Lifetime is offering this premier commercial free, so kudos to them and kudos to Sean for brokering that deal.
Do you want to be there when the Silence is Broken?
Saturday night, we will watch one devastated family Return to Zero and survive through it.
This Saturday, May 17th, Return to Zero, the movie, FINALLY will air on Lifetime.
No commercials. Just the film.
I have been waiting in anticipation for this film for MONTHS! I have talked with Sean about this – did you know that I interviewed him for our book Sunshine After the Storm: A Survival Guide for the Grieving Mother? Yep, sure did.
I have waited as they pitched this film to bring it to the widest audience and have the impact it needs to have… that is, to break the silence.
I just read a wonderful review on Still Standing about the movie, and I encourage you to go read it too. Especially if you are anxious or nervous about watching the film.
I especially liked this quote from Carly’s review:
After the first couple of scenes I felt my anxiety fall away. My body relaxed and something I never expected to happen occurred. I was laughing – out loud. The writing of this film is utter brilliance. You immediately fall in love with the two main characters Maggie and Aaron Royal, played by the wonderful Minnie Driver and the gorgeous (well he is!) Paul Adelstein. What I loved about the film was its rawness. It is so true, messy, beautiful, hilarious, honest, devastating, and hopeful. I laughed, nodded along and cried.
And
What surprised me the most about this film is that I always knew I would love it, but I never would have imagined that I would actually really enjoy watching it. I was doubled over in laughter as often as I was awash in tears.
AND
This is a film that every newly bereaved parent will want their friends and family to watch. It is an honest glimpse into the aftermath of losing a baby and what it is like to go through such a heartache.
Oh heck, you need to just go read Carly’s full review of the film Return to Zero. It is beautifully written, and will answer any questions you may have about watching the film.
Is this film for me?
Here is what the Return to Zero website says:
While this film is intended for a wide-release to audiences regardless of their life experience, RETURN TO ZERO fills a particular niche for a market that has gone unserved — those who have or know someone who has experienced the devastating loss of stillbirth, miscarriage, or neonatal death.
The statistics on stillbirth, which is the loss of a child after 20th week of pregnancy, are remarkable. In the U.S. alone there are approximately 26,000 stillbirths a year. That is equivalent to the amount of people who die in traffic accidents across this country every year. Yet, this topic has never been the central theme of a feature film.
The impact that one stillbirth has on the mother, the father, their family, and friends is devastating — a shock-wave of pain, guilt and then, too often, silence. The majority of those affected, especially the mothers, suffer in this silence often believing that their grief and trauma is theirs to bear alone.
While planning to entertain and enlighten all audiences with a dramatic tale of the strength and resilience of the human spirit, RETURN TO ZERO intends to break through the silence and become a beacon of cinematic light to the millions in search of answers, understanding and healing.
