Switching to Cloth Diapers

March 16, 2013 by katbiggie 4 Comments

Recently I decided to make the switch to cloth diapers.  We have been extremely pleased with this change, especially since

it has been over two months and I have not had to buy a single pack of diapers!  Woohoo!  I was able to find a local cloth diaper group on Facebook and bought almost all of my supplies used (but in great condition.)  I also had a friend give me a big bag of supplies, which helped.  So all in all, I’ve spent about $75 on diapering supplies, and they will hopefully last me until we are out of diapers!  Isn’t that awesome???

Making the switch does require a good bit of research.

Luckily I have a good friend and fellow blogger, Dana K, who is a cloth diaper pro!  You can find some great information about cloth diapers here and  here.

Although it’s really not that difficult to care for the diapers, there are some key points you really want to know.  I found this reference for talking about washing and stripping diapers, which has been a great help! There is a good deal of great information in this, so read it all!

I will tell you, I am pleased to be doing my part for Mother Earth by reducing our contributions to the land fill (especially since my Tiny pees a ton!!) but we do keep “sposies” (disposable diapers) on hand for babysitters or nursery situations or when we are going out and will be gone for awhile.  The wetsacks can work effectively for carrying your used diapers if you want to go hardcore, but I’m not quite that dedicated!  Especially if she poops!

I will be reviewing the diapers and giving more hints and information in an upcoming post, so stay tuned!

I have to admit, when my kids would have reactions to the diapers we were using, I thought about going the cloth route and now that I don’t have anyone in diapers anymore, I am kind of sorry I never did it. Good for you!

Thank you! It’s definitely a challenge but I am not hard core about it! For example, when the little miss is sick, I stick to disposables!

I am visiting with LWML, I couldn’t find a comment area on the page I linked to so I looked around and found this one. I followed you on BlogLovin. I am fairly new at blogging and looking around so I enjoyed searching through your blog. I am having fun meeting everyone!
