My son and daughter’s school put on the most amazing Military Appreciation day today for Veterans Day. It was amazing. They served us breakfast, they sang songs, even the teachers sang an absolutely gorgeous Thank You song, and they gave us a parade.
It was so touching. I especially enjoyed meeting a Korean War veteran who served in the Marine Corps. My grandfather was also in the USMC and served in Korea. He was a Forward Air Controller. So was this veteran! But sadly, he didn’t know my grandfather. That would have been too amazing. Forward Air Controllers (or FACS) had a very dangerous job. They directed the bombers where to drop their bombs – from the ground! Many, many of them did not make it home.
I’m proud to be a Veteran. I’m proud to be an American. And I’m proud of our school for going to these lengths to appreciate our military community. I know that it’s not the same in all places. We live in a hugely military community. We have a major Army base, an Air Force base, and both Army and Air Force guard bases right here. We have a huge retired military community here as well. So, it’s a very military friendly community. But I was still really impressed with the lengths our school took to celebrate and honor us as veterans and active duty service members.
Here are some pictures and a short video of the end of the Veterans Day parade!

What a wonderful celebration and most definitely well deserved for all veterans. Thank you once again for serving our country and all you did to help keep us safe, Alexa.
This is just wonderful. I am SO glad to hear you were celebrated so beautifully on Veteran’s Day!! I wish every school did this!
Thank YOU, and all who have sacrificed SO much for our freedom and our safety.
