It’s no surprise to anyone who knows me that I am continually battling with my weight. Up and down and all around. I blame part of it on a bum thyroid, a lot of it on a sedentary lifestyle (except when I’m training to run half marathons lol!) but mostly it is due to the fact that I really enjoy consuming food and alcohol. So if I do lose weight, it takes a major change in lifestyle.
Even though I go round and round, I do want to be healthy. I know that I need to be trimmer, eat better, exercise more. And I do try to do all of those things as much as I can, without giving up the other elements that I enjoy.
I have never been a fan of the fad diets. I know, that even though it is hard, the best way to lose weight is to consume fewer calories, eat whole, clean foods, reduce sugar and sodium, and exercise. And when I do that very consistently, it works.
Chasing three children and writing three books and two blogs, volunteering like a mad woman and trying to also launch a nonprofit for Sunshine After the Storm leaves me with little time or energy to do those things now. I grab food that is quick, which is usually not good for me.
All this to tell you, the other day FaceBook had a featured ad that drew me in. Dr. Oz actually has given a “thumbs up” to what many are calling the “miracle weight loss drug” : Garcinia Cambogia.
This odd looking fruit is supposed to be the end all, be all.
I couldn’t help myself. I was intrigued. I watched the Dr. Oz video and read a couple of success articles. I followed the sale links and hit “purchase” within about three minutes. It’s natural, it’s not a fad diet, so I can continue to live a normal lifestyle. The magic part about this all natural supplement is the way that it helps your body process sugars differently.
I got my delivery a little over a week ago, and started the supplement.
Week one, not only did I not lose any weight, I GAINED two pounds. Now, it’s true I went on a girls weekend where we binge ate and drank, like you do on those types of getaways. But also, I wanted to test the miracle powers of the GC by calling it’s bluff.
I can tell you one thing, if you eat an entire bag of snack size Almond Joys in a week (not to say that I did that or anything) and drink a soda and a glass or two of wine every day, it does not look like this pill performs any miracles.
I also realized after watching this video on Garcinia Cambogia that I am not taking it correctly. I’ve been popping two pills mid afternoon, but you’re supposed to do it twice a day 30 minutes before a meal. OK, so I’ll adjust that this week.
Now some of the other benefits they attribute to GC is more energy and improvement in mood. I will say my mood has been awesome, but that could be due to the fact that I’ve been living on chocolate and wine! 🙂
I’m going on a 2 month journey.
Week ONE= +2lbs
Changes I plan on making for week 2:
- Proper dosages
- No more Halloween candy
- Back on track with a normal eating plan
Have you ever used a supplement to try to lose weight? Did it work? And did the weight stay off?

November 15, 2013 at 8:00 pmI never did use a supplement, because I am so leery of stuff like this, but am interested in hearing how this week goes for you. I will tell you though, I have been terrible here with the Halloween candy alone and know I have gained weight just won’t step on my scale to confirm it. But seriously wish you tons of luck and can’t wait to hear how the week goes now.
