Keeping My Head Above Water… barely

September 23, 2013 by katbiggie 17 Comments

Oh my goodness friends, I didn’t realize it has been TEN DAYS since I last posted!

I am not even certain I can account for all of those days!

It certainly hasn’t been for lack of things to write about.

I know that I have been busier than a 1 legged man in a butt kicking competition! (Is that still funny??)

If you didn’t know, I am getting ready to publish my first book: Sunshine After the Storm: A Survival Guide for the Grieving Mother.

Sunshine_After_the_Storm_-_Cover3

This book is going to be INCREDIBLE folks. It is me and 29 other grieving mothers who have written our stories, our best advice, our encouragement, and our best survival tips for grieving mothers. I think it will also be an excellent tip for friends and family members who are better trying to understand the emotions of a loved one.

The book features some of my favorite bloggers, to include Jessica at Four Plus an Angel, Sheila Quirke from Mary Tyler Mom, Anna Donaldson from An Inch of Gray, and Jennie from A Lady in France. And oh so many more! I have developed a new love for a whole list of writers/bloggers through this project. Check out the whole list at Sunshine After the Storm.

Secondly, I have decided to break my Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS) awareness platform off onto it’s own webpage, Fight TTTS.

I have been thinking about this for awhile, but recently, as my blog has become more of a lifestyle/mommy blog, I do not want the important TTTS message to get lost in the mix. Additionally, if you’ve come to my blog because you have been diagnosed with TTTS and are seeking support and information, I don’t want the first few posts you see to be about my latest 10K, a great YA book to read, or Pinterest Worthy posts. Not that those aren’t wonderful, but I want TTTS to be the sole purpose. So I have my new page Fight TTTS.

I am still building it, and my plan is to resume TTTS Tuesdays. I will post a blurb on this page and link to the other page so that I still bring awareness here as well. I hope you’ll check it out. I have put a lot of work into it, but there is still so much to be done! And if you follow my blog only for TTTS information, please be sure to subscribe to that blog!

And finally, I am still plugging away on my fiction novel… currently titled “The Boys I Left in Paris.” But I am rethinking the title… the book is getting good y’all. Can’t wait to share more!

So, for those of you who have continued to check back in to make sure I’m alive, thank you so much! I apologize that I have not been making the rounds. I have missed you all. But life is gonna be crazy for a little while longer!

Tomorrow I am off to our nation’s capital to participate in a March of Dimes Advocacy Conference and go lobby on the hill for our babies!

Saturday, we will finally bury our sweet Kathryn.

And Sunday, we’re having a reception to unveil the new bench in her honor, in the corner of the Henry Michael Powell Children’s Memorial Garden that we have adopted, appropriately named “Kathryn’s Corner” and it is shaped like a butterfly! We are trying to raise $15,000 to put in the garden beds and the arbors. Should you feel like helping, you can contribute here.

Thank you Lisa! It has been non stop. I’m looking forward to a break… when, if that is ever possible! As they say, you can sleep when you’re dead, which I hope is not for a VERY long time!! Yes, Kathryn’s Corner is so peaceful and sweet. I can’t imagine a better place to memorialize her!

You have been busy, Alexa – I’ve missed your posts! The Fight TTTS page will be a wonderful resource to other parents, and I know the book will be a success too. You should be proud of all you do to be a support to other moms – I am proud to call you my bloggy friend.

There is a lot to comment on, and for now I’ll just choose the two lightest things. 🙂

I can’t wait to read your book (sneak preview?)

And thank you for mentioning me.

So much going on! (Don’t worry about being behind. I haven’t read blogs since last Friday.) I hope all went well in DC. And the bench just sounds perfect.
