Old School Blogging: Marriage

April 8, 2013 by katbiggie 17 Comments

I have been tagged! Alison from Writing, Wishing tagged me in this really fun Old School Blogging meme, started up last month by Elaine and Heather. I have been gone with my kids on Spring Break for five days, so this is a nice, fun way to jump back into it while I’m catching up!

This month is all about marriage, babies, and bliss, oh my!

1. How did your husband pop the big question?

My poor husband. He tried so hard to do something really romantic, and I ruined it! I was stationed in Texas at the time, and he flew out to visit me for the weekend. He arrived while I was still at work, and ran to the store to get the essentials for a perfect proposal – red roses and champagne. But lo and behold, I got home early from work, before he returned from the store, and I was in the midst of changing out of my uniform when he returned. I ran to the door to meet him, and couldn’t help but notice the items in his hand. So, as I stood in my empty dining room in my long black t-shirt and my black boot socks up to my knees, he got down on one knee and proposed. For us, it was pretty perfect! 🙂

2. What are the three most surprising things about married life?

One – it’s really hard and takes constant work from both parties. But when it’s not hard work, it’s fun!

Two – it’s hard to find the time to have just “couple time” but that’s the make or break piece of the puzzle.

Three – actions really do speak louder than words, especially when it comes to the small stuff, like putting things away

3. How did you find out you were pregnant for the first time?

We had been trying for about three months and I decided to buy a test. Lo and behold, the blue lines appeared! It was about 8am on a Saturday morning, and the hubs was still sound asleep in bed. He was very surprised!

4. How did you choose your first baby’s name?

It was tough. I always thought I would have girls, so I had no boys names that I just loved. After watching “Legends of the Fall” I loved Tristan, but then a friend had a baby and named her son Tristan. I loved the name Aidan, but that was super popular. I literally did not pick out his name until one week before he was born.  And the name fits him perfectly. And his real name is not Nayner Bug, despite that being his “blog alias.”

5. Describe where you see yourself 10 years from now…

Hopefully alive! This lack of sleep thing is slowly killing me. I’d love to be a published author, trying to manage two teens and a tween!

6. Describe how you find bliss either by using words or images.

Sleep! When I get it! Also, I just love sitting quietly in a lounge chair in front of any type of body of water – ocean, lake, river, pool. Relaxing, listening to the sounds of the world. Aaahhhh… feels relaxing just imagining it.

Now tag 5 of your bloggy friends!

I’d love to read about your engagement, marriage, babies and bliss – Kerry of Bread Winning Mama, Janine of Janine’s Confessions of a Mommyholic, Erin of Erin the Irish Mama, Stephanie of Mommy, For Real and Kate from Can I Get Another Bottle of Whine… Anyone else who’d like to play, please do, let me know and link up with Elaine!

Oh, tis the joy of motherhood right? When our kids are the most adorable, they are also the most work! I never thought there would be a day in my life where the thing I got MOST excited about was an opportunity to take a nap, but that is the story!

So fun to learn this little things about you, Alexa. I also had a tough time with boys names. We didn’t find out the sex of the baby while I was pregnant either time, so we had to come up with both. Girls were way easier, but I ended up with two boys. Luckily we thought of a couple!

Doh! Jennifer I meant to tag you on this one!!!!! Losing my mind!
Even though they told me NB was a boy, and we saw it, I didn’t believe it. Until the moment he popped out (or was tugged, suctioned, and pulled out!) I thought for sure he was a girl!!!

You are definitely right about the 3rd thing you listed about marriage! It is the small things.

And how sweet on your proposal. 🙂

    Thanks for linking up!!

I would have to answer these questions in a year or so (I got married Setp 29 2012). There are no surprises yet! Well, getting pregnant when they told me I couldn’t was a big surprise!
