This is exciting news! I’ve told you all about how my dad was diagnosed with Celiac disease and about how when we first began to learn about gluten and going gluten free, there weren’t many options for us in the grocery store. Not only was the gluten free section barely existent, but the products tasted like sawdust and cardboard, and cost a fortune. I remember the first time we made spaghetti, I wanted to cry. My favorite meal in the world… tasted awful. Thankfully, as time passes, not only are gluten free products tasting better and better, they are getting easier to find.
I’ve also told you about my struggles living with auto immune diseases – Lupus and Hashimotos Thyroiditis. In my recent research about auto immune diseases, I’ve learned that gluten is something I should never, ever consume. While that is sad, there is hope…
(Thank you to Sverve and Walmart for sponsoring today’s post. All opinions and recipes are my own.)
I’m so excited that many big-name retailers, including Walmart, are expanding their gluten free product lines! We can finally eat some of the things we really enjoy for a much more reasonable price.
Last weekend, Walmart stores all over the country held a gluten free event where shoppers could sample some of the delicious new products, including these:
I had a wonderful time tasting cookies and protein bars and pizza. Oh, the cookies! I finally, thanks to Glutino, ate a gluten free Oreo-like cookie that tasted like an Oreo! Sa-weet! If you want to try them yourself, here’s a coupon for gluten free cookies from Glutino.
According to Harvard Medical School, as many as 2 million Americans have Celiac Disease, and, as I can attest, it’s not easy to find good, quality gluten free foods, unless you go to specialty or health stores. Walmart decided to act on this need, and is now providing better access to a variety of healthy, affordable, gluten free products.
I snapped a picture of their gluten free shelf.
How about you? Have you and your family switched to a gluten free lifestyle? I hope you stop by and check out the new line of gluten free items at Walmart! You can also learn more about Walmart’s “Gluten Free For Less” initiative by visiting this site.

February 3, 2015 at 8:49 pmYou’re welcome. I hate to admit it, but we ate the entire package of chocolate chip cookies in one afternoon. Doh! Just cause it’s gluten free doesn’t mean it’s healthy.
