Return to Zero

May 23, 2013 by katbiggie 33 Comments

Kathryn_NameProjectFriends, any of you who frequent my blog know that I lost an infant, Kathryn, two days after birth. If you’ve visited recently, you know that recently a friend of mine delivered her full term baby stillborn, which prompted me to write my post on helping a friend survive the first year after pregnancy or infant loss.

I have not written much about the impact of our infant loss on our family, because it is too deep and quite frankly too personal for me to put out there. But I will tell you, the loss of a baby, a child, can have such a tremendous impact on your relationships, your marriages… your life. And it has impacted my personal relationships, especially my marriage. My husband and I have grieved differently, and it has been so very difficult.

We need to be able to talk about infant and pregnancy loss. We need to be able to understand how much the family unit is impacted. We need people to know that it is a life changing, forever impacting experience.

When I saw that there is a movie coming out about pregnancy loss, in particular stillbirth, I knew this was a project I wanted to support.  And I decided to become a local leader to help bring this film to everyone.

RETURN TO ZERO

The first film ever created with stillbirth as its central theme. You already know we have an amazing cast (MINNIE DRIVER, PAUL ADELSTEIN, ALFRED MOLINA, CONNIE NIELSEN, KATHY BAKER, ANDREA ANDERS and SARAH JONES) and we believe in our hearts that we have created a beautiful and touching film that will change how people view stillbirth and the effect it has on parents, relationships, families, and communities.

Please watch this clip about the movie:

I Became a Local Leader

What does this mean? It means that I have decided to become a voice for this film in my community and circles. A voice to help make everyone aware of this film and to encourage you to pledge to go see it. It’s a story you need to know.

Help Break the Silence about infant and pregnancy loss!

My goal is to get at least 100 people to pledge to see it. You can fill out the oh so simple pledge form (absolutely no money!). Please put “Alexa B” as your local leader! (I get nothing for this, just the satisfaction of making sure this message is spread far and wide!)

What exactly are you pledging? To see the movie on it’s opening weekend (which is TBD at this point.) We are trying to get 150,000 to sign the pledge before June 20th, to ensure a wide opening weekend across the world.

But more importantly, you are pledging to LISTEN, to HEAR, to BREAK THE SILENCE, and to let all of us know that we are NOT ALONE.

Sign the RETURN TO ZERO PLEDGE HERE.

This is important to me and I’m sure to anyone else in your life that has lost a pregnancy or infant. Will you please help by signing the pledge and sharing, sharing, sharing!

Will you pledge to see the film?

xoxo

Alexa B

I was not aware of this at all, so thank you for posting about it. I can’t sign the pledge, as I honestly am not able to get out to see it. But I pledge that I WILL see it at SOME point. My brother died at 3 months, and I have had 2 miscarriages. I think its a subject worth talking about.

I didn’t know, Alexa, and it is such a blow to the gut to learn about this – and now your friend too. It hurts. I will tweet about this, but I don’t think it’s likely I will be able to see it from here. Also, I try to avoid watching/reading fiction that I know is sad. I have had several of my own griefs and struggle with depression, so I try to filter what will do me good.

    But I’ll tweet!

I completely understand. I’m not sure how I will handle it either, but I will take an army of friends and plan on going for drinks and laughs afterwards! Thank you so much for taking the time to look at it and share it!
